The Luma Matte

A Matte is a still image or an animation that is used to determine levels of transparency for another layer.

We're making assets to start the year. I have a couple of starter ideas so far.

Sand,        Dirt,                 Sugar
Twine,      Yarn,                Branches

Checkers, Brushstroke,    Toe-mails
Smoke,     Letters,            Shading
Paint,        Hair,                Broken Glass
Fabric,      Wax,                Wood Chips
Noodles,   Feathers,          Smear
Texture,    Transparency,  Splash
Film,         Beads,             Stripes

I'm going to pick a few winners, throw them at the wall and see what sticks.

  1. Hi Evan,
I see you have a list of words, not necessarily a list of concepts. Stripes can be fun, but how do they appear, disappear, move, etc. (What are toe-mails?) It might help to be more specific with the concepts. Each one of these items, can be animated at least 50 ways. What ways were you thinking about?
